Programme
This year the festival takes place over four evenings (20th, 24th-26th May 2025).
On 20th May, acclaimed singer and composer Manickam Yogeswaran will be accompanied by Lawrence Ball (keyboards) and then with L Nagaraju on Carnatic violin, Abhi Ram Sahadevan on mrdangam, A Srinivasan on mohrsing, and Nimalan Pathy tanpura.
On 24th May, versatile pianist Giusto di Lallo performs Piano Suite 14 by Lawrence Ball, with an introduction by the composer, followed by "Night Meditation" including pieces by Philip Glass, John Cage, Eric Satie, Max Richter and others.
The 25th May is a double concert. First, pianist James D'Angelo performs his own composition "Four Contemplative Songs on Thomas Merton" followed by works by Jean Catoire, Alan Hovaness, Eric Satie and Arvo Part. In the second concert, Lawrence Ball performs "Sparkling Firmament for Terry Riley" and "Twelve Sprites” , and in the second half is joined by Sage Dance Company and Synthaesis for a live dance/immersive visual experience "Mirrors/Reflections"
On the 26th May, pianist Nicolas Horvath performs a two part concert, with works by Lawrence Ball, Keith Barnard, Jean Catoire, Philip Glass, and others. Nicolas' performance will be accompanied by "Breathing Space" by Synthaesis: liquid shapes are created by the breath of the audience, watching as the effect of the music on the audience fills the space.
This is year marks the 90th birthday of Terry Riley, one of the twentieth century's most influential composers. To mark this occasion, Nicolas will be performing the UK premiere of Terry's piano composition "Chasing Satie", and Lawrence will perform his own composition "Sparkling Firmament for Terry Riley" on multiple electronic keyboards.
